RAM as an Ultra Fast Hard Drive with Dataram RAMDisk

June 29, 2020

Description:

This class shows you how to use your RAM as an incredibly fast hard drive. RAMDisk allows you to create a virtual drive within your RAM so that you can access data 10x faster then a PCIe Solid State Drive.

RAMDisk also caches the data from the RAM Based Hard Drive onto a local regular drive so that when you shut down your system, or the PC loses power you won’t lose the data in the RAM Virtual Drive.

For the Freeware version you can download it at:

  • I'm not seeing the advantage over allowing the replacement algorithms to pull things from disk into RAM. I'm sure there is one but I just don't see what it is.

  • I suggest using ERAM. Its a RAM Drive that works on Windows XP/NT/2000/7/10 (32 and 64-bit) and has a maximum limit of 4 GB on Windows 7/10 (until I fix the BSODs caused by using a disk that is larger than that after removing the limit). Its driver and source code can be found by going to https://github.com/Zero3K/ERAM.

  • Is there a way to make an 8gb or 4gb server Ram card into an 8gb or 4gb hard drive storage that would be use only for that, would be so good for that to happen and use the server ram for gaming in regular desktop.

  • They need to do Ram with Storage memory, so we can use it for video games, at least a 120GB Ram Slot for Windows 10, compatible with previous DDR3 and DDR2.

Thanks for making such videos, I will be watching more as I am getting into AE etc, already had to upgrade to 16 GB RAM but will be installing this software. Subbed!

  • Hello! I have a question about this software i hope you could answer.
I use a DAW software for music composition (Native Instruments Maschine) where it samples pieces of audio (loops) to my hard drive. The right use of the software that you are exposing is, for example, to work with the project folder in that virtual disk or i should run the program on that virtual disk so it works faster? i hope you could understand my question.
    Thank you

  • Hi,I have a question,is it possible to create a boot start for example on windows 10 withe a diskram created? In other words ,is it possible that in the moment I press the button in my laptop I start it blazing fast ….faster than a SSD drive?…is it possible putting some of the boot files of windows and set it start on ramdisk? best regards.I hope that you help me on this question :). have a nice day.

  • What if someone could install just the windows OS on it, and not save anything in that windows OS, but only manually save files to another drive? Even if it got malware, that would all be gone on reboot right. The OS is all in the ram file. This is what a program called time freeze already does, although in a different way that doesn't have the advantage of ram speed.

Nader Kabir June 29, 2020 7:58 pm Reply
  • I want to be able to do that with the entire operating system. .. i usually never turn off my computer so it's most of the time in sleep state. it would be a really great thing to do if one could run everything from the ram, and use the hdd as a back up… that backs up your entire system, and changes at the back ground process in its own speed all the time, so in case power failure all the data would be remaining in the hdd, and then just re copy from hdd backup back to ram after restart.. is there a way of doing that?

  • Is it possible to use this tool to make the whole system faster? Example the video is managed by ramdisk but the program to read the video works from the mechanical hard drive making the process slow. So how to take advantages from it?

  • They changed it on there website for the free version. its no longer 4 GB. RAMDisk is offered as "freeware" for personal use and will allow you to create disks up to 1 GB in size. Some features not enabled and require the purchase of a license key to be enabled. For personal use only. EDIT if you go to filehippo and download this ramdisk they let you have 4gb for the free version. http://filehippo.com/download_ramdisk/
