  • I have a much simpler way.
    1. Open any window.
    2. Take you Mac in your dominant hand.
    3. Place your thumb on top of the Mac and your remaining fingers on the underside.
    4. Move your arm forward quickly and release the Mac.
    5. Replace the Mac with a PC.

  • Do NOT try this at home. Simply taking apart your MacBook Air and reassembling it, you run the risk of breaking the myriad of cable connectors, because they are FRAGILE as an egg shell. Merely opening your Mac product voids the warranty too, btw. Mine is in the shop now being repaired at a price that is half what I paid for it four months ago (and I live in a country that adds 110% tax to the purchase — so I'm actually paying full price of a new Mac for the repair).
Additionally, after having watched hours of these videos, I can say with confidence that most of them are TOTAL B.S. The nonchalant way in which these people go about doing the work proves to me that they are working with a broken unit for the video demonstration — BUT NOT AN ACTUAL FUNCTIONING LAPTOP. Countless videos rush through the work of the repair and reassembly. Open your Mac and see how infinitesimally small everything is — you literally need a microscope to pull off a resister and reseat.
More than 20 years ago, in the heyday of the tech company rise, I worked in IT and was certified in a myriad of hardware and software platforms — including Apple. That experience did not adequately prepare me for the night mare of opening my MacBook Air to clean and inspect for fluid damage. I SHALL NEVER AGAIN OPEN IT.

  • This gives second thoughts on how Apple prepares a custom RAM order Macbook Air model. Do they have manufactured boards with higher RAM configuration (done by robots) that they exhange on the custom-order Macbook Air or does it involve "hand-made" RAM upgrade?

  • @REWA Great vid. The only thing I have ever done on my MBA mid 2012 was replaced the battery about a month ago, and it took me 45 minutes hahahaha. So, it may take me a life time to finish this.

  • Where can you buy the little RAM chips to solder on, inorder to upgrade RAM on this computer ?

Félix Lessange June 25, 2020 12:43 pm Reply
  • You failed to mention that one has to flip the board over first to have access to the soldered RAMs. Lol.
Oh, also, I don't think this way is feasible to 90% of the audiences. But thanks for the knowledge, though.

  • @REWA Tehnology, can we user other types of chips, others than 511A and 431. What's the difference between them? Also, can you tell us more about BIOS upgrade? Is there something physical that has to be changed, or only software?
