1:59:04 Panthers Celebration
If there is one thing expansion teams are not known for, it’s knocking off perennial contenders, but in only their second season the Carolina Panthers did just that, conquering the Dallas Cowboys in the 1996 Divisional playoffs. It was a competitive game throughout, but the Panthers defense was able to frustrate Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman enough to slow the Cowboys offense while the Panthers offense pounded their way to 26 points on the other end.

1:59:04 Panthers Celebration
That first drive is indicative of Carolina as a franchise, extremely promising, exciting, but with gut wrenching results
I remember this as a kid… after this we wasn't in the playoffs for like the next 10yrs lol
The game was over once Irvin was knocked out of it. He was the heart and soul of the team and the biggest weapon in the passing offense.
The king is dead
I believe that the Carolina Panthers will win the game and the Dallas cowboys will
Lose
Reality vs Perception- HATE?
1) Aikman( my fave Cowboys QB) throws a few picks in a playoff game and loses..but cuz its Troy? it is just a loss..if Romo does it he chokes?
Aikman didn't play well. But the offense wasn't good enough as a whole. The other team practices and are Pros too. It happens. Give Thrm their credit.
2) Roger Staubach is called Captn Comeback yet Romo has More 4th qtr comebacks than Roger( 27)
But he is a choker? I just watched old Cowboys -Rams playoff game..late 70's Rams won.
Roger was 13-23 w 3 Ints..
My point..Roger and Troy were 1st rd picks and All time greats who deserve All the Love they get. And some. Player for player .Romo had No Doomsday Help.or same caliber of Rb, Wr cast..nor Same caliber of OL. Just saying. In Context and fairness. Romo Was a Good QB.
Booooo
Cowboys should have won this game. Cowboys would’ve been slaughtered in GB but they were better than this Panther team.
The day “America’s team” died
We ended the Cowboys' dynasty in only our 2nd season and yet no one gives us credit.
best 2 announcers ever!
The Hershal Walker deal back in 1989 for three top picks. The biggest flop of all time that got Dallas three Super Bowl titles and left Minnesota in the toilet.
#KeepPounding
Reason for the Jags and Panthers early success… take a look at their rosters.
They were stacked with freaking athletes collected from each team in the NFL.
I think each team allotted two players and both expansion franchises were able to sort out the best of all those and ended up with some serious talent to go along with some high draft choices.
Carolina defense really benefited from this with what looks like an all star pro bowl roster of sorts.
No wonder they were both so fast to the Championship game
Irvin doesn’t go down we win this game easily
When we knew the Cowboys dynasty was over
No Haley
No Irvin
Poor Play Calling
Primetime getting hurt late in the game
Oline didnt do a good enough job
Cost them the game
1h 19min Playmaker looks like a big time coke kingpin. New Jack City hahaha
and for a moose that was a heck of a catch hahaha
gotta love madden
34:29 Woodson was like a deer in headlights. He caught Collins staring down his WR the entire time and threw to him and Woodson offered no help to smith. that should have only been 3pts for the Panthers
Had Jerry not fired Jimmy, Dallas would have run the table in the 90s. Switzer was too soft. A soft Switzer paired with poor drafting is what killed this franchise. Should easily have 6-8 rings
After this loss, the Cowboys self destructed and havent been relevant since…..
1:15:00 was the game it inspired everybody
Cowboys had so many opportunities to steal this game. Couldn't score TD's and some huge mistakes at key moments. The Int before the half and then the last meaningful drive down 6 late. There was enough time to mix in runs and not be one dimensional passing.
Losing Irvin obviously hurt real bad. He was the most important player on the Cowboys offense especially with Jay Novacek out the season who was Aikmans safety valve.
Panthers took advantage of a declining Dynasty because of dummy Jerry jones
When you realize this was Adam Vinatieri's rookie year and he's still playing……
Irrelevant, they lost to Green Bay the next week. No Superbowl rings EVER for that franchise.
